Positioning yourself as the authority and building your profile, are essential these days, because people will not buy your services if they don’t know, like & trust you.
Q: But how do you build your profile?
A: To build your profile, you need to be where your peeps are hanging!
Maybe your prospects mainly hang out on LinkedIn. Probably on Facebook. Maybe on Instagram.
But I can guarantee they’re there.
However, most people are doing social media all wrong.
They collect numbers. They connect with someone on Facebook or LinkedIn, add the “number” to their contact list, and move on.
I do it differently.
I use a method I learnt back in the early 90’s when I opened my first business.
I call it the Yellow Pages Method of doing social media.
Back in 1990 it looked something like this: look up a contact in the big yellow book, dial the number, the person on the other end of the phone would say hello, and we would open up a conversation.
Nowadays it looks something like this: see someone on social platform, connect, person connects and you say hi, and open up a conversation.
I don’t ever remember ringing someone, and having them pick up the phone and then sitting there in silence.
Lucky, because that would have been really awkward…
But every single day, millions of people are out there collecting numbers and not opening conversations and connecting. And that’s why no-one knows who they are
Social media is called social for a reason…
