Samantha (00:50):
Welcome to Episode 418, of influence by design, Today is Day 11. In our 30 in 30, we’re we’re releasing an episode every day for the month of September. And we’re focusing on the theme of stepping into your power, being the unapologetic leader in your industry so you can build your elegant empire.
Today, I want to talk about something that’s not often acknowledged around the topic of goal setting. So when you sit down to write your goals, do you choose goals that seem outrageous and out of reach? Or do you choose something that stretches you but not too much, something a little more conservative.
Samantha (01:25):
Now, I love this quote by Bill Gates. Most people overestimate what they can do in a year and underestimate what they can do in 10 years. And I believe one of the reasons for underestimating the goals that we set is because when we’re setting goals, sometimes we say to ourselves, I don’t know how now I often have new clients working with me that say, Sam, how do I do that? And I say new clients, because once people have been working with me for a while, they know that this isn’t the best question.
And if you’ve said this, this seemingly small phrase is stealing your dreams. Why? Because when you’re beginning a new project, and you ask how questions, many of the answers to your questions may be, I don’t know. And all you hear is I don’t know, it’s extremely demoralizing. So today, I want to share the five questions that you need to start asking yourself and your team that will have you reaching new heights and write these down. What, when, where, who, and why.
Samantha (02:31):
So let’s unpack this a little. Imagine your goal was to start a podcast. Now that’s not a huge goal. But a goal that many people want to set they want to have a podcast and never get around to because they don’t know how you could ask questions like, Why do we want to start a podcast? Who do I know that’s already grown a successful show? Where can I go to ask questions about the tech that I need? When do we want to release our first episode? You know, do we want the launch to align with a special date? What would be the overarching theme of the show? And why? And when you ask yourself these five resourceful questions, these W questions, you are able to crack open your dream project and take your goals from ideas into achievable actions.
So what can you set in your sights for next week, where you can ask yourself, what when, where, who and why, which will have you really getting and reaching the next level.
